Hello Les. Had a good clear week here most nights since the 7th... I have seen quite a few Geminids each night.. Although none of any great spectacle. Hoped I'd picked a couple up on some of my images, but alas NO!!! They are ALWAYS just off frame or FOV. Do you think they know you are looking? Steve

Hi Les, I've only briefly had a go at the Geminids (whilst taking the dogs out for their late night pee) & seen one this week though it was a good'un ! Keef

hi It was clear between 22h45 and 0h30 UT. Not so much geminids, but bright ones! Holmes still easily seen with the naked eye. The first one immediately was a -4 in Taurus. Also a -1 point meteor appeared, but at 23h19 a -3 through Orion. Around 23h41 two -1 geminids in short time. Also at 0h06 again a huge -4 geminid in Orion. At this time still many clouds... bye

HI There, Last night during my routine observations I saw no Geminids in fact it was decidedly quiet even for sporadics so I set aside a hour(22:45-23:45) to making a watch for any late ones.I saw three as fallows; 22:58-Mag 1 north of the sickle of Leo. 23:22-Mag 0 through Ursa Minor. 23:26-Mag 1 in Cygnus. Regards Les

Just read on spaceweather or maybe another site (not sure now) that the Geminids were reported to be a 'Great Display' this year with a peak of 140 at some times and locations..... Did they take a detour around us???? Steve

In 1861 the Geminids were first noticed. In the 70's the ZHR was around 70. Since the 90's it reached 100 meteors. Today, they peak at 140 meteors. The Model of Jones-Hawkes tells us the activity is still growing. Around 2050 a maximum is predicted for 190 meteors per hour.

We were out in the new forest the night of the peak and between 10pm - 11:30pm we saw between 4 of us approximately 15-20. 3 of which were very bright and fairly low on the horizon. the rest were in the region of where Mars and Orion are in the sky. We would have stayed longer if the clouds hadn't come over but overall a worthwhile trip. Lokking forward to the next shower.
